BTP Trainees’ Summer 2022 Internships

Marjorie Marin, NIH Trainee 2020-2022
Program: Public Heath
Lab: Alicia Timme-Laragy
Research Interests: Understanding how early life exposure to environmental contaminants like per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) impact the developing pancreas and beta-cell function.

Matthew Lebovich, NIH Trainee 2018-2020
Program: Chemical Engineering
Lab: Lauren Andrews, PhD.
Research Interests: My research aims to engineer genetic circuits in probiotic bacteria for improved diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases. By characterizing repressor-based logic gates under gut-like conditions, it seeks to develop probiotics that detect disease markers, record signals, and deliver targeted therapies.

Danny McSweeney, NIH Trainee 2019-2020
Program: Molecular and Cellular Biology
Lab: ChangHui Pak
Research Interest: Investigating synaptic adhesion molecules and their contributions to neurodevelopmental disorders, like schizophrenia and autism.

Becca Huber
Program: Chemical Engineering
Lab: Shelly Payton
